Uterine Fibroid
Hysterectomy is declining. What is replacing it?
A (Surgeon): Myomectomy is still gold standard for fertility preservation, but it has high recurrence.
B (Interventional Radiologist): Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is minimally invasive, same-day procedure. Patients return to work in 5 days vs. 6 weeks.
C (Patient Rep): We need better education. Many women suffer heavy bleeding for years thinking it’s normal. Also, insurance often denies UAE as “experimental.”
D (Pharma): Oral GnRH antagonists are new. They shrink fibroids without surgery, but side effects (bone loss) limit long-term use.
